This year marks Friends of Coonley’s 17th annual Spring Fling fundraiser and community event benefiting the students of Coonley Elementary and we will be celebrating in a fabulous new venue - Rockwell on the River. Spring Fling FAQs
What is Spring Fling?
Spring Fling is Friends of Coonley’s annual spring fundraiser where parents and the Coonley community come together for a night to benefit the kids of Coonley. While we are giving our dedicated team of volunteers a break from organizing the annual auction this year, there will be opportunities to continue your support. Why attend?
Please don’t be shy if this will be your first Spring Fling - we would love to see you! Spring Fling is a chance to meet, connect and celebrate the Coonley community with other parents, volunteers, community members, administration, teachers and staff all while supporting our little Cougars! All proceeds from Spring Fling directly benefit Coonley students. Thanks to the generosity of committed parents and community members, the funds raised at Spring Fling help provide teaching assistants, technology, arts programs and so much more to Coonley. It is truly fabulous to see the community come together to support our school. Strong Roots - together, we bloom!
Do I need to be there on time?
The event will begin at 7pm with the Welcome and Information Hour, but feel free to come anytime. From 7-8pm, new and veteran families can:
What happens the night of the event?
Can you tell me more about the parent-led groups that will be represented?
Sure! Coonley has a number of parent-run groups which support Coonley, our local community and beyond. There will be tables set-up with each group represented including parent volunteers to answer questions, materials about the group and a chance to sign-up to join or learn more after the event.
Is there a dress code?
Most importantly we want you to be comfortable and have fun! We tend to see a wide range of attire - anywhere from jeans and dressy casual to semi-formal dresses, etc... Don’t forget comfortable shoes if you plan to hit the dance floor.
Will there be a coat-check?
Yes, look for the coat-check attendant on your left as you enter the building.

Parking is limited at Rockwell on the River and we encourage attendees to utilize a rideshare service to get to and from the venue. Please exit rideshare vehicles on Rockwell and follow the welcome signs.
Can I still support Spring Fling even if I don't attend the event?

Every dollar helps us meet our goal! Reach out to your company to find out their requirements for matching gifts. Most have a form that needs to be completed by the employee and the school in order to process the request.

What happens the night of the event?
- On the night of the event, doors will open at 7pm for the Welcome & Information Hour highlighting the many groups that support the Coonley community. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with committee members from Coonley CORE, Coonley Cares, FOC, Coonley’s Antiracism Group, Coonley’s Green Team and the Spring Fling Parties Committee to learn more about each and find out how to support and get involved.
- Principal Humphrey and Assistant Principal McLinden will also be available to answer your questions.
- The event will give attendees the opportunity to mingle with new and old friends, enjoy food and drinks from local businesses and participate in a few fundraising activities to support Coonley.
- Heavy appetizers begin at 7pm
- Raffle winners will be announced at 8:45pm (need not be present to win)
- Sipping Italy or France Raffle
- Get your ticket(s) to our Sipping Italy or France Raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold for $50 each. One lucky winner will choose 12 bottles of wine or champagne difficult to find in the U.S.
- Winner’s Choice Raffle
- Make sure to buy your ticket(s) to our Winner’s Choice Raffle. Only 100 tickets will be sold for $100 each. One lucky winner will choose their dream getaway from one of four incredible options.
- Sipping Italy or France Raffle
- The dance floor will open at 9pm - get ready to show us your moves!
- Dessert will be served
- Doors close at 11pm
Can you tell me more about the parent-led groups that will be represented?
Sure! Coonley has a number of parent-run groups which support Coonley, our local community and beyond. There will be tables set-up with each group represented including parent volunteers to answer questions, materials about the group and a chance to sign-up to join or learn more after the event.
- Coonley CORE - Represents local businesses that donate money, time and goods to Coonley Elementary School. In turn, we ask all members of our school community to support Coonley CORE sponsors.
- Coonley Cares - provides an opportunity for our community to support CPS students in need throughout the city. Money donated to Coonley Cares will be used to support Lara Academy and our new school partnership. Lara Academy is Coonley’s map twin school. https://www.foldedmapproject.com. Thanks to your generosity, Coonley Cares has donated in excess of $75,000 for outside organizations and schools since its inception in 2017.
- Friends of Coonley (FOC) - Friends of Coonley is a not-for-profit organization of parents, community members, teachers and school administrators dedicated to providing support through fundraising and community-building efforts.
- Coonley Antiracism Group - Focused on facilitating opportunities to increase conversation, understanding and action to continue to strengthen an antiracist school environment. Make a donation to CAG here.
- Coonley Green Team - Coonley was recently selected to participate in Chicago Public Schools Commercial Composting & Recycling Program. Stop by to hear more about the zero waste efforts happening at Coonley.
- Spring Fling Parties Committee - Learn more about parent hosted parties that give Coonley families a fun day/night out with all ticket sales benefitting Coonley.
Is there a dress code?

Covid-19 Safety Measures
- This event will adhere to current local and state covid-19 safety guidelines.
- Effective February 28, the City of Chicago has removed the mask and vaccine requirements for certain public spaces. Masks will continue to be required in CPS, health care settings, on public transit, and in other congregate settings.
- While the city of Chicago has recently changed its mask and vaccination mandate, we continue to ask in-person attendees to be fully vaccinated, remain home if not feeling well or showing symptoms of covid-19 and consider testing prior to attending.
- Sanitizer stations will be provided by doors & food stations
- Disposable masks will be available (please remember masks are still required for public transport/rideshare).

- Yes! You can purchase raffle tickets and make a direct charitable contribution from anywhere.
- FOC Donation is a straight donation to help Coonley raise additional funds for our school without receiving anything in return. Donors can give any amount on their device.
- Please check your email leading up to the event for information and links on how to participate in the raffles, make a donation or to support one of our other parent-led Coonley groups. Help us celebrate 17 years of helping Coonley grow!
